Synonyms of "So" and their differences

Q: В чем разница между so и therefore ?
A: @Akiko46598080: The children wanted to play, so they went to the park.
I'd like to return to school to study economics, therefore, I should enroll very soon.

"Therefore" is more formal.
"So" is very informal.
Q: В чем разница между like и so ?
A: I assume you mean the almost meaningless particles.
Both of these words have other meanings.

"Like" is more of a filler I'd say and can go almost anywhere in a sentence (Only ever use this in spoken English). It can also show that you're not entirely certain about what you're saying, kinda... But it can also show that you do... It's very hard to explain. It is used to buy time if your trying to come up with a word, sorta like "ummm," but in a less uncertain way I guess... Often "like" is followed by "ummm..." to buy additional time.

"What's that thingy called?"
"It's like, ummm... I forget..."

"So" is a transition word. It can be used to begin a sentence that ends an awkward silence. If you're using it between sentences it shows that your may be switching topics("so anyways," is common here, but just "soooo," is fine too. It could also be used to show that you're just struggling to think of what to say.

"Sooo..., like, I just like bought some new boots, and like, they're like made of leather and stuff...." -Stereotypical teenage girl (teenage girls are stereotyped as using "like" very often).

"That's cool... so anyways, what do you want for dinner?"
Q: В чем разница между so far и by now ?
A: "So far" is used to describe something as it is currently, but could change in the future.
"So far, I haven't had any trouble (but I may experience some later)."
"We haven't had to use our umbrellas so far (but it might rain later)."

"By now" is a bit more complicated. It is often used to describe something that should have happened, or you were expecting to happen, but might not have happened yet.
"I thought I'd be having trouble by now (but so far, I am okay)."
"The bus should have arrived by now (but it hasn't arrived yet)."

I hope this helps!
Q: В чем разница между and so и so that ?
A: 2は正しくないです。

"So that" follows a sentence to give a reason for something.

"I studied all day so that I could pass the test."
"I worked out every day so that I could get in shape."
"I went to Japan so that my Japanese could improve."
Q: В чем разница между that's why и so ?
A: "That's why" sounds like somebody had asked a question, and this is the answer:

An asteroid hit the earth and that's why the dinosaurs all became extinct. (Mom, why are there no more dinosaurs?)

He forgot his wallet - that's why I had to lend him $20. (Why did you have to lend him that money?)

"So" also implies that one thing naturally leads to the other. But it doesn't sound like somebody asked a question first.

I got bored halfway through the movie so I left.
He forgot his wallet so I lent him $20.
