When you speak Japanese, you have to choose how you speak according to who are you talking to.
I mean, if you are talking to your superiors, you should speak politely.
On the contrary, it wouldn't be natural if you use too polite wordings to your inferior ones.
This morning, I was watching a re-run of "Columbo," American detective TV series in Japanese dub.
In it, a murder suspect was calling Columbo "Columbo-kun."
"Kun" is a honorific used for addressing to those of junior status.
So that sounded odd to me.
Maybe, they are dubbing like that, because all suspects in "Combo" are always persons with high status who look down on Columbo.
I tentatively switch the sound to English, and this time, the suspect called Columbo the "lieutenant."
