Many native speakers use the words interchangeably, but this is a mistake. The difference is in the location of the speaker.
Going to - You are at Point A and talking about leaving Point A and traveling to Point B.
"Are you going to Mary's party on Friday?" (You will leave your home and travel to Mary's party)
Coming to - Someone at Point B is talking to you about you leaving Point A and traveling to Point B.
"Hello. This is Mary. Are you coming to my party on Friday?" (Will you leave your home and travel to my party)
It is wrong to say "Next year, I am coming to the UK".
It is wrong to say "Are you coming to Mary's party on Friday?", although it is very common to hear this.
As langlangjane, You can say "I am coming back to the UK next year" if you are in the UK when you speak.
Or you can say "I am returning to the UK next year". Here, you can be inside or outside of the UK when speaking. It doesn't matter.
