Вопрос про Английский (американский вариант)

I am reading The Hunger Games and I can't understand the following sentence:
"Just the opposite of what Haymitch had mid him to do."

I looked up 'mid' in dictionary but I couldn't find an appropriate example for this sentence. I think it indicates something like 'advise'....? Or is it a simple preposition meaning like 'amid'?
