I started joining such meetups from a few months ago, but I don’t know how to utilize them.
I attend the meetups after memorizing some common English phrases because improvising foreign languages requires to speak a lot.
However, even if people in attendance can understand what I say to them, I can’t catch anything, so it’s hard to keep on chatting every time.
I don’t know whether my listening skills will naturally improve if I keep on participating in meetups as it is or it is too early to practice conversations yet.

I’d like to use the above sentences when I join a meetup for practicing English. I would appreciate it if you could correct any mistakes strictly. The original sentences are as follows.
私は数ヶ月前からこういうミートアップに参加し始めたんですが、どういうふうに活用すべきか悩んでいるところです。
語学の上達にはアウトプットがとても重要らしいので、いくつかの定番表現を暗記して参加してるんですが、自分の言ったことは相手に通じても、相手の言っていることが聞き取れないから、会話が続かないんです。
このまま何度か出ていれば自然にリスニングができるようになるのか、それともまだ会話の実践は早すぎたのか、その辺がよくわかりません。
