"supper" is an evening meal. It is not the same as dinner, as dinner in the UK can be either in the middle of the day or in the evening, depending on your family tradition and the region you are from..

@boukhawla11 We all agree in the UK that breakfast is the first meal of the day.
Other than that, there is disagreement! Some call the mid-day meal "lunch" and some "dinner". Some call the evening meal "dinner", "tea" or "supper". My family meals are breakfast/lunch/tea, except when having a roast meal on Sunday when it is breakfast/dinner/tea. Others at work choose to call them breakfast/lunch/dinner, and others breakfast/dinner/supper.....

I agree on that, but people all around me (friends, family, colleagues) always use dinner. I hardly hear the word "supper" and the closest synonym/meaning to "supper" (i still think) is "dinner". For me the meals of the day are breakfast > lunch > dinner. As for eating in between or after dinner, i guess i could call it a "snack" or something like that. Usually my dinner is after 9 pm and its always been dinner time when the night falls. So i guess I've been taught to call the meal "dinner" when its already dark outside.

@arienai If you want an explanation of how "dinner" moved from its traditional position as the main meal of the day always taken in the middle of the day to being for some in the evening, read Bill Bryson's book "At Home: A Short History of Private Life".
He goes on to explain the consequences of the Victorian upper class change to move dinner to be in the evening:
“One consequential change is that people used to get most of their calories at breakfast and midday, with only the evening top-up at suppertime. Now those intakes are almost exactly reversed. Most of us consume the bulk--a sadly appropriate word here--of our calories in the evening and take them to bed with us, a practice that doesn't do any good at all.”
