I can't imagine anyone saying "We originally like sweets". Obviously it depends on what you actually want to say. Do you mean "We used to like sweets"/

In this example, I meant "basically", yet, originally also has a meaning of "basically"

In answer to your reply that "originally" can mean the same as "basically", I have to say that I don't really agree. If you juse the word "originally" you are making a point about what happened at the beginning, at the "origin". A sentence using "originally" might be, "Our house was originally two cottages but they were later combined together to form one larger house".

In answer to your reply that "originally" can mean the same as "basically", I have to say that I don't really agree. If you use the word "originally" you are making a point about what happened at the beginning, at the "origin". A sentence using "originally" might be, "Our house was originally two cottages but they were later combined together to form one larger house".
